Transcoding on Vodacom South Africa

You may have noticed a number of conversations on the topic of Transcoding for Vodacom, one of South Africa’s main Operators.

Bango have been watching this conversation closely and would like to confirm with our Content Providers that Vodacom are using the OpenWeb transcoder that easily and successfully recognises mobile specific content and does not alter it in any way. Any non-mobile sites are automatically transcoded so they render correctly on a mobile device, adding operator-specific header and footer toolbars.

These toolbars are ONLY shown when a non-mobile site is transcoded.  For anyone with a mobile site, the OpenWeb transcoder is ideal and should cause no issues.  Anyone with a non-mobile site will find they start to get mobile visitors viewing their WEB site on their mobile devices, after it has been automatically transcoded to fit.
